A CeO2-modified Li-rich layered oxide cathode with tunable interfacial oxygen for durable Li-ion batteries

Abstract

The electrochemical performance of layered Li-rich oxide Li1.20Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13O2 (LLO) can be enhanced by a cerium oxide coating (LLO@CeO2) with tunable interfacial oxygen activity. CeO2 with oxygen vacancies can suppress the irreversible oxygen release and thus help to restrain structure degradation. This finding presents a strategy to regulate interfacial oxygen activity by coating metal oxides with abundant oxygen vacancies for Li-rich cathodes.
