Photoinduced hardness change on TiO2 single crystal surfaces

Abstract

The dynamic hardness of rutileTiO2 single crystal surfaces was investigated using a nanoindentation technique and the hardness increase was observed only in the near-surface region, possibly due to the volume expansion accompanied by the photoinduced high hydrophilicity.
