Syntheses of Ferrocene Derivatives with Potentially Mesogenic Functional Substituents

Abstract

Ferrocenyl imines, Fe{η5-C5H4CH[double bond, length as m-dash]NC6H4OCnH2n+1-4)}(η5-C5H5) and Fe{η5-C5H3-1-(CO2Et)-3-(CH[double bond, length as m-dash]NC6H4OCnH2n+1-4)}(η5-C5H5) (n=5–9) produced from formylferrocene and 1-(ethoxycarbonyl)-3-(formyl)ferrocene, respectively, and some diaryl esters of ferrocenedicarboxlic acids have been synthesised and characterised by analysis and spectroscopy.
