Inverse gas chromatography in the monitoring of bright stocks annealing. Application of the heat of solution and the heat of mixing

Abstract

Three base oils (deasphaltized oil, raffinate from the deasphaltized oil, bright stock) from the process of the preparation of the bright stock and the mixture (deasphaltized oil–bright stock, 1:1 m/m) as well as products of their oxidation were characterized by means of inverse gas chromatography. Retention data were used in the calculation of the molar enthalpy of solution and the molar enthalpy of mixing for the set of carefully selected test solutes. The changes occurring during the annealing process are presented, quantified by the new parameter and discussed.
