JANUS WEDGES: a new approach towards nucleobase-pair recognition

Abstract

The two-faced JANUS-type heterocycles 1a and 1b are designed to recognize a cytosine–uracil mismatched basepair by insertion in a wedge-like fashion between the bases to give a triad motif utilizing the maximum number of Watson–Crick interactions, as shown by 1H NMR spectroscopic studies.
