Self-assembly of single-(Cd4O4) and double-cube (Cd7O8) and stellated-octahedron (Cd6O8)[Cdn(C6F5)2n–p(moe)p] complexes (moe = 2-methoxyethanolate) and the X-ray crystal structures of [n,p]=[4,4], [7,8] and [6,8]

Abstract

Depending on the relative amount of MeOCH₂CH₂OH (Hmoe), the partial alcoholysis of [Cd(C₆F₅)₂] affords the complexes [Cd₄(C₆F₅)₄(moe)₈], [Cd₇(C₆F₅)₆(moe)₈] and [Cd₆(C₆F₅)₄(moe)₈] which have {Cd₄(µ₃-OR)₄}⁴⁺, {Cd₇(µ₃-OR)₈}⁶⁺ and {Cd₆(µ₃-OR)₈}⁴⁺ cores, respectively; several further multinuclear Cd²⁺–C₆F₅^––moe^– species appear in the Cl-mass spectra of these complexes.
