EPR observation of a radical cation salt derived from hexamethyl(dewar benzene) at room temperature

Abstract

Vapour deposition of hexamethyl(Dewar benzene) or hexamethylprismane onto solid dioxydenyl hexafluoroantimonate at liquid nitrogen temperature followed by warming the sample to room temperature gives rise to 13-line EPR spectra with binomial intensities (g= 2.0025 ± 0.0004; A= 10.7 ± 0.1 G), which are very similar to the spectra previously observed at cryogenic temperatures upon radiolysis of hexamethyl(Dewar benzene).
