A large rhodium carbonyl cluster compound containing four encapsulated nitrogen atoms: synthesis and X-ray structure of the anion [Rh23N4(CO)20(µ-CO)18]3–

Abstract

The novel anion [Rh23N4(CO)20(µ-CO)18]3–, obtained by controlled pyrolysis of [Rh6N(CO)15], contains a large metallic polyhedron of idealized C2 symmetry, which has 21 surface metals and encloses a couple of bonded rhodium atoms and four interstitial nitrogen atoms, each connected to five rhodium atoms.
