One-step synthesis of alkenyloxy–alkenylcarbene complexes and the unprecedented formation of an η5-allyl-alkene ruthenium complex

Abstract

Tetramethylbenzene alkenyloxy-alkenylcarbene ruthenium(II) derivatives [(C6Me4H2)Ru{[double bond, length half m-dash]C[O(CH2)mCH[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2]CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CH–(CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CH)n-R}Cl(PMe3)]PF6(m= 1,2; n = 0, 1, 2)are produced in a one-step reaction from (C6Me4H2)RuCl2(PMe3) in the presence of propynylic alcohol derivatives HC[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–C(H)(OH)[(CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CH)n-R] and ethylenic alcohols, whereas a similar reaction with HC[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–C(OH)Me2 affords a novel η5-allyl–alkene ruthenium complex, which is characterised by X-ray crystal structural analysis.
