Stabilisation of cobalt(I) by coordination within a bipyridyl-based hydrogel polymer membrane

Abstract

A method is described for the preparation of a polymer-bound tris(2,2′-bipyridine)cobalt(I) complex; within the dehydrated hydrogel membrane this oxidation state is unusually stable and easy to handle in air.
