π-Cation radical generation via aerial oxidation of a porphyrin

Abstract

ESR spectroscopy and simulation suggest that meso-tetrakis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin 1 undergoes aerial oxidation in acidified solutions to give a long-lived π-cation radical with a quasi-2A2u ground state.
