N,N′,N″-tris(3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclonana, a new effective ligand for iron (III)

Abstract

A potentiometric pH study of the formation constant of the FeIII chelate of N,N′,N″-tris(3-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane reveals that it is higher than that of any synthetic iron(III) chelate previously reported, and that the ligand binds FeIII more strongly at physiological pH than does the microbial siderophore enterobactin.
