[4-2H6, 18O2]valine has been fed to intact cells of Cephalosporium acremonium; isolation of the biosynthesised α-aminoadipoylcysteinyl valine (ACV) tripeptide has demonstrated that an intracellular exchange of one and both valine oxygens occurs.
