Synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of acetonitriletetrakis(2,4,6-tri-isopropylthiophenolato)molybdenum(IV)

Abstract

[MoCl3(NCCH3)3] reacts with an excess of 2,4,6-tri-isopropylthiophenolate in acetonitrile to give [Mo(SC6H2Pri3-2,4,6)4(NCCH3)] where molybdenum has been oxidized. An X-ray crystal structure determination revealed a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry about molybdenum with a CH3CN group occupying an apical site.
