Organohydrazido(2–) complexes of molybdenum and tungsten from α,ω-dibromides; crystal and molecular structures of (azetidinylimido)bis[1,2-bis-(di-p-tolylphosphino)ethane]bromotungsten bromide–dichloromethane (1/3)

Abstract

The reactions of α,ω-dibromides, Br(CH2)nBr (n= 3, 4, or 5), with a range of bis(diphosphine) complexes [M(N2)2(L–L)2](L–L = diphosphine) have been investigated. The products are generally of the form [MBr{N[graphic omitted]H2}(L–L)2]Br [M = Mo or W, n= 4 or 5, L–L = R2PCH2CH2PR2, where R = Et, Ph, or 4-XC6H4(X = Me, MeO, Cl, or CF3)]. For n= 3 the products take the form [MBr{NNH(CH2)3Br}(L–L)2]+, but when X = Me, ring compounds are again formed, and the structure of the molecule with M = W was determined by X-ray structure analysis. The spectroscopic characteristics of the various complexes are discussed.
