Preparation, X-ray crystal structure, and properties of [V(S2)2(terpy)]: intramolecular coupling of the sulphide ligands of [VS4]3–

Abstract

The reaction of [NH4]3[VS4] with 2,2′ : 6′,2″-terpyridine (terpy) in methanol gives the novel vanadium compound [V(S2)2(terpy)], the crystal structure of which has been determined by X-ray diffraction. Its formation is probably the simplest example of intramolecular coupling of sulphide ligands in a tetrathiometalate anion.
