Disparate reactivity of 4-tricyclyl iodide and chloride in the SRN 1 reaction; bridgehead revisited

Abstract

The remarkably facile SRN 1 reaction of 4-tricyclyl iodide and the near inertia of 4-tricyclyl chloride under the same conditions are compared with the reactivity of other bridgehead compounds; the nature of the SRN 1 reaction for aliphatic substrates is discussed.
