Replacement of alkyl by alkoxy on silicon attached to rhodium

Abstract

Irradiation of [(C5Me5)Rh(H)2(SiEt3)2](1) in alcohols yields [(C5Me5)Rh(H)2(SiEt3){Si(OR)3}](2) and ethane; formation of [(C5Me5)Rh(H)2{Si(OR)3}2](3) does not occur though both (2b, R = Et) and (3, R = Et) are formed on reaction of (1) with (EtO)3SiH.
