Photochemical degradation of halogenocarbons by a diphosphine–di-isocyanide bridged rhodium(I) dimer

Abstract

The synthesis and spectroscopic properties of [Rh2(dppm)2(TMB)2]2+[dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; TMB = 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-isocyanohexane] and [Rh2(dppm)2(TMB)2X2]2+(X = Cl, Br, I) are described; excitation of an acetonitrile solution of [Rh2(dppm)2(TMB)2]2+ at ca. 590 nm in the presence of RCl (CH2Cl2, CHCl3, or CCl4) results in the formation of [Rh2(dppm)2(TMB)2Cl2]2+.
