Theoretical analyses and electron counting rules for high nuclearity clusters

Abstract

The bonding in high nuclearity clusters with close packed arrangements of metal atoms is dependent primarily on the radial interactions between the surface and interstitial atoms; these clusters are characterised by 12nsi valence electrons, where ns is the number of surface atoms and Δi is a characteristic of the interstitial group of atoms.
