Novel anionic cages from ‘alkylmanganese chloride’ and ‘alkylcobalt chloride’ solutions. Crystal and molecular structure of [Li(thf)4][{(Me3Si)3C}3Mn3Cl4(thf)](thf = tetrahydrofuran)

Abstract

The reaction between tris(trimethylsilyl)methyl-lithium and manganese(II) or cobalt(II) chloride yields lithium salts with chloride-bridged polynuclear anions; the manganese compound [Li(thf)4][{(Me3Si)3C}3Mn3Cl4(thf)](thf = tetrahydrofuran) has been characterised by an X-ray study.
