Interconversion of ethylidyne, ethylidene, vinyl, and ethylene groups at a dimetal centre; X-ray crystal structure of [PtW(µ-CO)2(PEt3)2(η-C2H4)(η-C5H5)][BF4]

Abstract

Treatment of the ethylidyne complex [PtW(µ-CMe)(CO)2(PEt3)2(η-C5H5)] with HBF4·Et2O affords the salt [PtW(µ-CO)2(PEt3)2(η-C2H4)(η-C5H5)][BF4], structurally characterised by X-ray crystallography; other complexes are described, derived from [PtW(µ-CMe)(CO)2(PMe3)2(η-C5H5)], with platinum–tungsten bonds bridged by CHMe or C(R)[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2(R = H or Me) groups.
