On the annulation of Δ2-tetrahydropyridines. An expeditious total synthesis of the protoberberine alkaloid karachine

Abstract

The various steric, stereoelectronic, and electrostatic factors which influence the bicycloannulation of Δ2-tetrahydropyridines are discussed in connection with a concise two-step synthesis of the protoberberine alkaloid karachine (1).
