Formation of 2,3-bis(methoxycarbonyl)-1,4-benzodithiins by reaction of 1,4,2-benzodithiazines with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate

Abstract

1,4,2-Benzodithiazines reacted with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in boiling o-dichlorobenzene to give 2,3-bis(methoxycarbonyl)-1,4-benzodithiins in good yields with elemination of hydrogen cyanide or a nitrile.
