Synthesis, characterization, and chemical transformation of di-imino-succinonitrile cobalt complexes; X-ray crystal structure of cyanobis(di-iminosuccinonitrile)cobalt

Abstract

The diamagnetic cobalt(II) complexes [Co-(C4H2N4)2L]2(L = H2O or Me2SO), dimers of bis(diiminosuccinonitrile)cobalt(II), have been synthesized and transformed to the square-planar Co1 complex [Co(C4–H2N4)2], and the square-pyramidal Co111 complexes [Co(Me)(C4H2N4)2] and [Co(CN)(C4H2N4)2]; the structure of the latter unusual compound was determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis.
