Iodine-127 Mössbauer spectra of [I2][Sb2F11] and some polyhalide anions

Abstract

The ¹²⁷I Mössbauer spectra of [I₂][Sb₂F₁₁] and some polyhalide anions have been recorded and the Mössbauer parameters discussed in terms of their structures. A reasonable correlation is found between the quadrupole coupling constant and ligand electronegativity. The lack of consistency in reporting isomer-shift data for ¹²⁷I or ¹²⁹I is remarked upon and a plea to adopt either Na₃[H₂IO₆] or Cul as a reference standard is made.
