X-Ray crystallographic determination of the structure of bis(methyl-cyclopentadienyl)ytterbium tetrahydrofuranate and its ready formation by four new routes

Abstract

(MeC5H4)2Yb·OC4H8, which is generated by reaction of MeC5H5 with YbC6H10, by H2 reduction of [(MeC5H4)2YbMe]2, and by photolysis and thermolysis of [(MeC5H4)2YbMe]2, has a solid state structure consisting of chains of (µ-MeC5H4)(MeC5H4)Yb·OC4H8 repeating units related by a 2-fold screw axis and connected by one bridging cyclopentadienyl group per ytterbium.
