O-alkylation and structural rearrangement of CO ligands in [Fe4(CO)9(µ-CO)3(µ3-CO)]2–; X-ray crystal structure of [N(PPh3)2][Fe4(CO)11(µ-CO)(µ3-COMe)]

Abstract

The reaction of [PPN]2[Fe4(CO)9(µ-CO)3(µ3-CO)][PPN+= bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium] with MeSO3F results in the methylidyne cluster [PPN][Fe4(CO)11(µ-CO)(µ3-COMe)] and X-ray crystallography demonstrates that O-methylation is accompanied by a re-arrangement of CO ligands from the µ2 bridges to the terminal positions.
