Concerning the metal–ammonia reduction of biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid

Abstract

In contrast with a previous report, biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid is reduced by Na–NH3 to provide only the 1,4- and 1′,4′-dihydrobiphenyl-4-carboxylic acids, by using rapid quenching techniques.
