The stereochemical course of methyl group transfer catalysed by the S-methylmethionine: homocysteine transferase from jack beans

Abstract

The (pro-R) methyl group of S-methyl-(S)-methionine is transferred to (S)-homocysteine with a stereoselectivity of 90% or more in a reaction catalysed by a transferase from jack beans.
