Photoinitiated substitution reactions of 4-cyanopyridine and 2-cyanoquinoline with 2,3-dimethylbut-2-ene

Abstract

Substitution of the cyano group occurs when either 4-cyanopyridine or 2-cyanoquinoline is irradiated at 254 nm with 2,3-dimethylbut-2-ene, leading to (1) and (2) or (3) and (4), respectively, without forming cyclic photoadducts.
