Reduction of the carboxyl-function in aromatic carboxylic acids by alkali metal–liquid ammonia solutions

Abstract

Significant yields of alcohol and hydrocarbon products which are obtained in the reduction of 4-phenylbenzoic acids result from increased conjugation in the reaction intermediates.
