Preparation, crystal structure, and magnetic properties of a trinuclear mixed-valence manganese carboxylate

Abstract

The reaction of [Mn(H2O)2(O2CMe)3] with pyridine (py) produces the antiferromagnetic trinuclear complex [Mn3(py)3O(O2CMe)6], whose molecular structure, determined by X-ray methods, shows all three manganese atoms to be equivalent, with an average oxidation state of 2⅔.
