Synthesis of the enolic β-diketone carotenoids, mytiloxanthin and trikentriorhodin

Abstract

Claisen type condensations between the appropriate polyene esters and methyl ketones are used to synthesise the enolic β-diketone carotenoids trikentriorhodin and the 9-cis isomer of mytiloxanthin.
