The structure of the 1 : 1 ion pairs, Et4N+Ln(dtc)–4(Ln = Pr, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb) in acetonitrile has been determined using n.m.r. shift and relaxation ratios. Evidence of considerable ion clustering in solvents of lower dielectric is presented.
