Orientation in the addition of HD to butadiene on MoS2

Abstract

Hydrogenation of butadiene with HD over MoS2 gives two geometrical isomers, [3-2H1]but-1-ene and [4-2H1]but-1-ene; the ratio of the two isomers agrees strictly with the isotope effect for the overall reaction rates with H2 and D2.
