Electron spin resonance study of γ-irradiated single crystals of fluorene

Abstract

Single crystals of fluorene, γ-irradiated at room temperature, have been studied using e.s.r. spectroscopy and the product of irradiation identified as the fluoren-9-yl radical. The components of the hyperfine coupling tensor have been determined, and the radical has been found to retain the same position as the parent molecule in the crystal lattice.
