The reaction of 1-pyrroline 1-oxides with triethyl phosphonosodioacetate affords 1-azabicyclo[3,1,0]-hexanes and ethoxycarbonylmethylidenepyrrolidines but is not general for a variety of other phosphonate or phosphinoxy-carbanions.
