Diazoalkanes from methylsulphinylhydrazones

Abstract

Base-catalysed α-elimination of methysulphenic acid from methylsulphinylhydrazones leads to aryldiazoalkanes; diphenyldiazomethane was also obtained from the reaction of Ph2C[double bond, length half m-dash]N–N[double bond, length half m-dash]S[double bond, length half m-dash]O with butyllithium.
