Photolysis of 1-benzoyl- and 1- and 3-o-lodobenzoyl-indole

Abstract

Irradiation of 1-benzoylindole in enthanol gave mainly 3-benzoylindole and a small amount of indole. 1-o-lodo-benzoylindole in benzene gave a mixture of isoindolo[2,1-a]indol-6-one (II) and indeno[1,2-b]indol-10(5H)-one (III); the latter was also obtained by irradiation by irradiation of 3-o-iodobenzoylindole. Irradiation of 1-o-iodobenzoylindoline gave pyrolo[3,2,1-de]phenanthridin-7-one (I) in small yield.
