Photochemical fragmentation of 7-oxonorbornen-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride and 1,2-dihydrophthalic anhydride

Abstract

The title compounds (1) and (2) undergo irradiation-induced decarbonylation and CO + CO2 fragmentation respectively and consecutively to give benzene, the anhydride (3) and tropone (5).
