Equilibrium properties of polar gases. Part 1.—The second density virial coefficients of some polar gases

Abstract

Measurements have been made of the second density virial coefficients of fluoroform, chlorodifluoromethane, chlorotrifluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane, 1,1-difluoroethylene and dimethyl ether at 25, 40 and 55°C, of bromomethane and chloroethane at 25 and 40°C, and of trimethylamine at 25°C. An electromagnetically operated density balance was used in conjunction with an accurate manometer. Both the apparatus and the method of data analysis used reduce the possibility of errors arising from adsorption of the gas being studied. The precisions of the measured virial coefficients are believed to be about ±10 cm3 mol–1.
