Pyrroles and related compounds. Part XIX. Synthesis of phylloporphyrins related to chlorobium chlorophyll (660)

Abstract

Syntheses of 2,5-diethyl-7-(2-methoxycarbonylethyl)-1,3,8,δ-tetramethyl-4-propylporphin (IId) and its δ-ethyl homologue (IIc) by the b-bilene method are described. The two porphyrins were fully characterised and easily distinguished, but attempted identification of them with degradation products of Chlorobium chlorophylls (660) fractions 4 and 3 was unsatisfactory.
