Enamine chemistry. Part XII. Reaction of acid chlorides with cross-conjugated dienamines. Synthesis of γ-pyrones, dihydro-γ-pyrones and biphenyls

Abstract

A new synthesis of some novel substituted dihydro-γ-pyrones and biphenyls is described. These compounds are formed by the reaction of aromatic acid chlorides with acyclic cross-conjugated dienamines, the product distribution depending upon the experimental conditions used. In some cases γ-pyrones have also been isolated. The mechanisms of these reactions are discussed.
