The biosynthesis of santiaguine
Abstract
The 2,4-diphenylcyclobutane-1,2-dicarbonyl (α-truxyl) portion of the santiaguine molecule (VIII) is shown by tracer experiments to be derived from phenylalanine and cinnamic acid in Adenocarpus foliosus. Adenocarpine is shown to be the immediate precursor of santiaguine.
