Infra-red dispersion studies. Part 9.—Band intensities of some XY4 molecules, (X = C, Si, Ge, Sn; Y = Cl, Br)

Abstract

Liquid-state dispersion curves of some tetrahedral penta-atomic molecules containing a group 4 element have been obtained between 5000 and 20 cm–1. A Fabry-Perot étalon was used over the range 5000–200 cm–1 whilst a Michelson interferometer was used from 400 to 20 cm–1. From these dispersion curves, vibrational band intensities have been obtained and the trends found are discussed.
