Oxidation of phenylglyoxal dihydrazones to phenyl-1,2,3-triazoles

Abstract

Phenylglyoxal bis(acetylhydrazone) was oxidised to 1-acetamido-4-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole, whereas its bis-(aroylhydrazones) yielded 1-α-benzoyloxybenzylideneamino-4-phenyl-1,2,3-triazoles. Boiling these with concentrated hydrochloric acid resulted in migration of the amino-group to position 5.
