Photolysis of trifluoromethyl iodide in the presence of ethylene and 1,1-difluoroethylene

Abstract

The competitive addition of the CF3· radical to ethylene and 1,1-difluoroethylene was studied between 0 and 100°; the following values for the Arrhenius parameters were obtained: log A2/A4= 0·44 ± 0·13; E4E2= 2·00 ± 0·19 kcal./mole, for the reactions CF3·+ CH2= CH2 CF3CH2CH2·(2), CF3·+ CH2= CF2 CF3CH2CF2·(4) Trifluoromethyl iodide was photolysed in the presence of mercury to generate CF3· radicals.
