Zinc nitrite complexes with amine ligands

Abstract

The preparations and i.r. spectra of a series of zinc nitrite complexes with amine ligands are reported. The nitrite groups co-ordinate through oxygen, as unidentate ligands in Zn(diamine)2(ONO)2(diamine =NN′-diethylethylenediamine, NN-diemthyethylenediamine, and o-phenylenediamine), Zn(2-methylpyridine)2(ONO)2, and, possibly, in Zn(ethylenediamine)2(NO2)2, but as chelates, with various degrees of Zn–O bond asymmetry, in ZnL2(NO2)2[L = pyridine, 3-(or 4-) methylpyridine, 3,5-dimethylpyridine, or isoquinoline] and in Zn(NNNN′-tetramethylethylenediamine)(NO2)2. The compound Zn(NN-dimethylethylenediamine)2(ONO)2 reacts with acetone to form the Schiff-base complex Zn(Me2C:N·CH2·CH2·NMe2)2(NO2)2.
