Insertion reactions of thallium–carbon and thallium–oxygen bonds

Abstract

Sulphur dioxide inserts into but one thallium–carbon bond in trimethylthallium to give Me2TIOS(O)Me. This has a sulphinate structure and is dimeric. The reaction between trimethylthallium and carbon disulphide is complex. Both sulphur dioxide and carbon disulphide react with dimethylthallium alkoxides and thallium (I) phenoxide to give insertion products of the thallium–oxygen bond.
